Why was Metro Bits offline for a month?
No, I didn't go bankrupt. All I intended was just to move the webspace and domain to a more up-to-date webhosting service. Of course I have asked the former provider Hansenet/Alice very early to move the website seamlessly, two-and-a-half weeks prior to the cancellation date.
But they deleted the (anyways ridiculously small) webspace unexpectedly on 31 August 2007 and kept my domain name in their claws. It cost me countless telephone calls, emails, faxes, letters (and nerves) to get Hansenet/Alice to fulfill their minor duty of releasing the domain. Every little step had to be discussed with their highly incompetent support. At the time I was already contacting a lawyer, they finally released the domain so it could be transferred.
Back to the Future!
Now that Metro Bits is finally back, let's look into a brighter future! The new hosting service offers much more opportunities. I'm currently shoveling all data into a database and creating script-based web pages. It means more flexibility, and the biggest addition to come is separate pages for every metro city, summing up all information about each city's metro system. That should add quite a new dimension to Metro Bits.
